Editing needs come in all shapes and all sizes – and it doesn’t have to come after you’ve completed a draft. Some people need help with the development of their plots; others need help making sure their finished work is clean and error free, and sometimes double checked for sensitivity. Whatever you need, we’re here to help.
Fiction Development Editing ($40/hour)
Wouldn’t it be great to know that your plot is sound before you start writing your story? A development editor is exactly what you need if you want an experienced sounding board in checking the construction of your plot arc before you begin writing. If you have a synopsis, an outline, or a skeleton draft, our editor checks your framework for flow, story beats, and genre conventions. With their advice, you can shore up any weak points and start writing with confidence.
If you aren’t a plotter or want to wait until you’ve completed a full draft, a developmental edit can still be useful. They’re great if some part of your story doesn’t “feel quite right” and your beta readers can’t pinpoint exactly why. (Odds are, we’ll nail that problem down for you.)
Whether you need your synopsis checked, the full manuscript, or just a chapter, we can set a project rate based on the estimated number of hours required that’ll keep your budget on track. Or, you can just reach out when you need on the hourly rate!
Fiction Copy Editing ($40/hour or contact for project quote)
We find that project pricing, which is based on an estimate of hours required, works best for most authors who need copy editing of a work greater than 10k words. Reach out for a quote with a sample chapter of your finished work and the word count, and we’ll do the math, easy peasy.
Smaller work copy editing is something we can still do! 30 minute minimum applies.
Other editor services offered:
- Nonfiction Copy Editing – $45/hour, or contact for project quote on large works
- Sensitivity Reading – $35/hour
